How to Take on College Studying

Choose Where to Study.
Where you should study depends on two factors: the environment in which you are best able to concentrate and the type of work you are planning to do.
·        The best places to study have good light, a comfortable temperature and enough desk space—usually your dorm room, your apartment or the library.
·        For completing problem sets or brainstorming possible test questions, you may want to study with a group or at least in setting where fellow are available for discussion.
·        When you are reading book chapters or working on a research paper, you are probably better off in a less social environment.

Improve Your Study Habits
Here are simple steps you can take to help you get a handle on studying:
Have a routine for where and when you study.
Choose reasonable and specific goals that you can accomplish for each study session.
Do things that are harder and require more intense thought at your most productive time of the day.
Take breaks if you need them so you don’t waste time looking a material but not absorbing it.
Get to know students whom you respect and you can study with or contact to ask questions.
Keep up with the workload and seek help when you need it.

Summary: today in my new media class I learned about choosing the right. Jenna huff is a cross country runner that won an Olympic award for “sportsmanship”. She helped another runner that couldn’t run anymore because her hip bone pop out. And Jenna helped her.

How to Take on College Studying

In college, you’ll need to build on the study skills that you learned in high school. The demands of a college class are probably more rigorous than those you are used to.
You can succeed by knowing what to expect and how to handle it. Think of college as a full-time job, in which you spend 40 hours a week on class, labs, study groups and doing homework.
Being organized and using your time well are essential. Learn more about time management, and use the guidelines below to develop your study skills.

Decide When to Study

Work out about how many hours you need to study every day. Than make a schedule.
o   Figure out what blocks of time you have available throughout the day, in the evening and on weekends.
o   Consider what time of day you’re most alert – there are morning people and night owls—and try to schedule your studying accordingly.
o    Think about whether you do better studying for a few hours at a time or sitting down for marathon sessions.

Tip. 6 Get a Good Night’s Sleep.
Your brain needs rest to perform at its peak. Lack of sleep makes the day seem longer and your tasks seem more difficult.
Tip. 7 Communicate Your Schedule to Others.
If phone calls or text messages are proving to be a distraction, tell your friends your only available certain times a day and not to expect a response at other times.
Tip. 8 Become a taskmaster.
Give yourself a time budget and plan your activates accordingly. Figure out how much free time you have each week before you add any commitments.
Tip. 9 Don’t waste time agonizing.
Instead of agonizing and procrastinating just do it. Wasting an entire evening worrying about something that you’re supposed to be doing is not productive, and can increase stress.
Tip. 10 Determine your priorities.
You can do everything are once. Establish the importance of each item. Then set realistic goals that are attainable.

1)   Body. Eat wholesome foods, fruits, vegetables, legumes. Avoid illegal drugs, smoking, alcohol, tobacco products, tattooing. Exercise regularly and effectively. Get plenty of rest at night. 7 habits of highly successful teens habit 6

Habit 6 : synergize

Synergy is achieved when two or more people work together to create something better than either could alone. Through this habit, teens learn Synergy is achieved when two or more people work together to create something better than either could alone. Through this habit, teens learn it doesn't have to be “your way” or “my way” but rather a better way, a higher way. Synergy allows teens to value differences and better appreciate others. Synergy is the reward, the delicious fruit you’ll taste as you get better at living the other habits, especially at thinking Win-Win and seeking first to understand. Learning to drop box is like learning to form V formations with others instead of trying to fly through life solo. You’ll be amazed at how much faster and father you’ll go, synergy doesn't just happen. It’s a process. You have to get there. And the foundation of getting there is this: learn to celebrate differences.
A good band is a great example of synergy. It’s not just the drums, or the guitar, or the sax, or the vocalist, its all of them together that make up the “sound.” Each band member brings his or her strengths to the table to create something better than each could alone. Not instrument is more important than another, just different.

Student Succes Statement
" So often, in our quest to become more popular and to be part if the "in-group" we lose sight of things that are far more important"
-Sean Covey

Reflection:There comes a point were everyone wants to be in the : in group", and i think thats ok. The problem is that so many people while on their quest, change, start to see things differently than they normally would of. Take famous people for exampl. Disney Channel stars are one of the many paople who lose their way. Mnay of the Disney Channel stars start with good intentions, with noble hearts, and as their journey continues they loose it, start doign drugs etc...So it's important to remember were you come from, never lose or forget what is important to you, because in the end popularuty won't matter.

7 Habits of Highly Successful Students  Habit 5

5. Seek to Understand and then to be Understood

Because most people don’t listen very well, one of the great frustrations in life is that many don’t feel understood. This habit will ensure your teen learns the most important communication skill there is: active listening.
Why is this habit the key to communication? It’s because the deepest need of the human heart is to be understood. Everyone wants to be respected and valued for who they are- a unique on-of –a-kind, never-to-be-cloned individual. People won’t expose their soft middles unless they feel genuine love and understanding. Once they feel it, however, they will tell you more than you may want to hear. People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care. Listen with your eyes, heart and ears. 7 percent of communication is contained in the words we use. The rest comes from body language (53%) and how we say words, or the tone and feeling reflected in our voice (40%).
Most people are eager to talk and had rather talk and listen. We have one mouth and two ears. This means we should listen twice as much as we talk. We actually learn more while listening rather than we talk. Learn to listen and listen to learn.
Listen, really listen, for understanding. Seek first to understand than to be understood—LISTEN

 Valentines

Valentine’s Day is a day to spend times with the ones you love, cherish, care. Valentine’s Day is on February 14. Today, on the 14 day of February, one might see people carrying roses and balloons and stores decorated with red and pink adornments. Why you might ask? It is a festive day on behalf of a Christian saint named Valentinus. It was set to believe he was imprisoned for performing weddings for soldiers who were forbidden to marry and for ministering Christians, who were being persecuted during the Roman Empire. Saint Valentine’s Day is being celebrated in his tribute throughout the entire world. However, in some places such as Saudi Arabia, have banned the sale of all Valentine’s Day items because it is considered as a Christian holiday.

Many will go out on party or go to dinner with their boyfriend or girlfriend.holding hands will be known on Valentine’s Day. On valentines you’ll will see many couples walking around, kissing, talking to each other, and finally having a good time.
On Valentine’s Day men undergo on a lot of pressure. Ask their girlfriend or soon to be girlfriend to be their valentines. Men sometimes never ask a girl out on Valentine’s Day cause they think they’re going to get rejected by the ones they love the most.
On this day, today valentine’s day is the most popular holiday there is . the most cliché present many people give to their love ones are chocolates, flowers, valentine’s day balloon’s, and cute stuff animals like for example: bears, dogs , well whatever’s that is cute
On this day today it’s not just love , bears , flowers …etc there are also broken hearts some people unsuccessfully attract the one they like so their left alone rejected sad and no one left for them to be happy.

7 habits of highly effective teens habit 4

4. think win-win
Teens can learn to foster the belief that it is possible to create an atmosphere of Win-Win in every Relationship. This habit encourages the idea that in any given discussion or situation both parties can arrive at a mutually beneficial solution. Your teen will learn to celebrate the accomplishments of others instead of being threatened by them. Win –Win is a belief that everyone can win. It’s both nice and tough all at once. I won’t step on you, but I won’t be your doormat either. You care about other people and you want them to succeed. But you also care about yourself, and you want to succeed as well. Win- Win is abundant. It is the belief that there’s plenty of success to go around. It’s not either you or me. It’s both of us. It’s not a matter of who gets the biggest piece of the pie. There’s more than enough food for everyone. It’s an all-you-can-eat buffet.
Win-Win always creates more. Perhaps the most surprising of thinking Win-Win is the good feelings it brings on. The true test of whether or not you are thinking Win –Win or one of the alternatives is how you feel. Win- Lose and Lose-Win thinking will cloud your judgment and fill you with negative feelings.
Win-win will fill your heart with happy and serene thoughts. it will give you confidence. Even fill you with light. Think win-win or no deal.

7 habits of highly successful teens  habit 3

Habits 3: put first things first
Habit three is about will and will not power. This habit helps teens prioritize and manage their time so that they focus on the things first also means learning to overcome fears and being strong during difficult times. It’s living life according to what matters most. Putting first things first deals with things that are:                  important or not important, urgent or not urgent. Let’s look at the four quadrants of time management.
Quadrant 1: Things those are important and urgent
Quadrant 2: Things those are important but no urgent
Quadrant 3: Things that are not important but are urgent
Quadrant 4: Things those are not important and not urgent
1.important and urgent
2.important but not urgent
3.not important but are urgent
4.not important and not urgent

Quadrant 2 is the ideal place to spend our time, doing things that are important but nor urgent. Here’s where priorities come into play.

The result for living Quadrant 2 are:
1.   Control of your life
2.   Balance
3.   High performance
So, in what quadrant are you spending most of your time? The key is to shift as much time as possible into Quadrant 2 and this is accomplished by planning. Spend more time planning and incorporating the most important things first, things that matter most. Keep your eyes on the prize and reach for it.

Student success statement

" The only difference between those who have failed and those who have succeeded lies in the difference of their habits. Good habits are the key to all success. Bad habits are the unlocked door to failure. Thus, the first law i will obey, which preceded all others is--' I will form good habits and become their slaves.' "

-Og Mandino

This quote is basically sayin that success if formed through good habits, such as always turninh in your homework, never being tardy, or skipping school etc.. Failure is only brought to ones self through bad habits like being late, not turning in assignments, and all around, failing classes. So the choice is up to you, choose the right  or fail in life.

7 habits of highly successful teens habit 2

Habit 2: begin with the end in mind

If teens aren’t clear about where they want to end up in life, about their values, goals, and what they stand up for, they will wander, waste time, and be tossed to and fro by the opnions of others. Help your teen create a personal mission statement which will act as a road map and direct and guide his decision-making process
“Keep your eyes on the prize.” Determine your desired prize and don’t quit until you have realized the achievement of your prize. Then set another prize, another goals or goal or desire that you would really like to achieve. Begin with the achievement of your prize in mind. Visualize and then realize. Start by having a target in mind; know where you are going.
One prize or goal you are definitely needed to establish for yourself is the prize of an honorable graduation from high-school- that you will prize of an honorable goal you definitely need to establish for yourself is the prize of an honorable graduation from high school-that you will receive your diploma honestly and with integrity-that you earned it with perfect honesty.

7 Habits of Highly Successful Student Habit 1

( by: Sean Covey but modified)

Habit 1: Be Proactive
Being proactive is the key to unlocking the other habits. Help your  teen take control and responsibility for her life. Proactive people understand that they are responsible for their own happiness or unhappiness. They don’t blame others for their own actions or feelings. Proactive people realize that the ball is their court, that they are the captain of their own ship; they are in control, control of their decisions, thoughts, choices, decisions,, goals actions and priorities. Proactive people are self-starters; they don’t wait to be told what to do, they press forward with enthusiasm toward the achievement of their assignment, their duties, their responsibilities, their obligations. Choosing to do what is right is a proactive decision. Obey rules. Obey the coach. Obey the school policies. Obey with exactness, and great things will come to you. Be proactive and take initiative.

7 habits of highly successful teens

By sean covey

For teens, life is not a playground, it’s a jungle. And, being the parent of a teenager isn’t any walk in the park, either. In this book, the 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens, author Sean Covey attempts to provide “a compass to help teens and their parents navigate the problems they encounter daily.”
How will they deal with peer pressure? Motivation? Success or lack thereof? The life of a teenager is full of tough issues and life-changing decisions. As a parent you are responsible to help them learn the principle and ethics that will help them to reach their goals and live a successful life .
While it’s all well and good to tell kids how to live their lives,” teens watch what you do more than they listen to what you say.” Covey says. So practice what you preach. Your example can be very influential.
Convey himself has done well by following a parent’s example. His dad, Convey, wrote the book The 7 Habits of Highly Successful People, which sold over 15 million copies. Sean’s a chip off the old book, and no slacker. His own book has rung in a more than respectable 2 million copies sold. Here are his seven habits, and some ideas for helping your teen understand and apply Them:

A successful student…

… Takes responsibility for his/her own learning

Online learning can be a powerful, stimulating, engaging experience for the student who can work and think independently. However, since most- if not all- of the learning takes place on your own time, you will not have the kind of direct supervision you would in a classroom. Online learning requires a significant commitment from you. All education comes down to what you’re willing to invest in the experience- this is particularly true in the online environment. Commitment, self- discipline and self- motivation are all key qualities to ensuring success in an online course!

… is comfortable and confident with written communication                                                                                                                              Reading and writing are the basis of most online courses, so it’s critical that you feel comfortable with this form of communication. While some courses contain modules that include videos or otheractivities, all of them require significant amounts of reading. And nearly all of your communication with your classmates and your instructor will be in writing. If these are weak areas for you, you will want to address those issues prior to enrolling or while enrolled in an  online course. The PSU writing Center is available to assist you.

… is willing to be a member of an online community!
